Making 21st century reading more accessible
Peter Lucantoni
Reading and writing are incredible human achievements, allowing us to communicate across both space and time’ (Watkins, 2017). In this session we will discuss the importance of reading in the 21str century, and consider how students can gain access to reading in the modern digital world. We will establish the differences between skills and strategies and decide why this distinction is so important when considering print vs online reading. By participating in a reading activity, there will be an opportunity for teachers to discuss the differences between online and print reading, to think about online text validity, and agree on the key characteristics of each.
